LEAVE A LEGACY

Thank you for considering sharing your inheritance and showing the love of God to ex-prisoners.  The purpose of any will should be to provide for relatives and dependants. However, if you have the resources, have you considered also leaving a gift to a charity such as us?  Legacies are one of the most important donation mechanisms in the UK, raising as much as over £1.3 billion for good causes each year.  A legacy is a wonderful blessing and would have a long term impact on our work.  Legacies are also free of inheritance tax, a donation made in your will can help reduce the tax burden on your estate.

WHAT IS A CHARITABLE LEGACY?

A Charitable legacy could be a gift of money or any other assets that you leave behind.  While there are a number of options to consider, there are two main types of charitable legacies; pecuniary (specific amounts) and residuary (a percentage of the value estate, or the remaining sum after providing for family and friends).

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

To leave a legacy to a charity you simply need to include details of the donation in your will along with the Charity name and number.  You can either write a will, making an amendment or ‘codicil’ to an existing will or by setting up a trust.  Ideally you should see a solicitor who can help you.

OTHER OPTIONS

You can suggest that people make us donations instead of leaving or sending flowers.  You can leave a note with your will, or include your intentions in the will itself.
