MENTORING
SST is looking for volunteer mentors to provide one-to-one support to ex-offenders as they settle into a new life. Mentoring is one of the most effective ways of overcoming the difficulties and barriers faced by ex-offenders in the UK. Mentors support and guide their mentees as they seek to achieve their goals in employment, housing and integration back into the community. In return, mentors have the opportunity to learn more about their mentees and develop valuable skills.
To become a mentor, you should be able to commit to once a week contact with your mentee, arranged at times to suit you both. This contact can be a phone call or a one-to-one meeting.
Mentors come from all walks of life, sharing their experience and understanding of life. In practice, this could mean anything from helping to prepare for job interviews, getting involved in a local church or exploring your local area together.
We are always looking for individuals who are:
• able to relate to people
• able to listen
• accepting of people as they are
• open to learning about themselves
• able to inspire, encourage and motivate others
You could help an ex-offender to;
• get settled into a new home
• get back into education or find employment
• build up their confidence and life skills
• manage their money
• go to new places
• get involved in a local church
