ABOUT US

ResidentsA prison sentence is pretty grim. However, for some people it is an opportunity to re-think their lives. Many prisoners go to chapel or attend Alpha (in fact, prisons have the highest level of church going in the country). And some decide to make a commitment to be a Christian. When they leave prison, around a third of all prisoners are homeless. The Government reckons that ex-prisoners are very likely to re-offend unless they have help in finding a home and a job.
We believe that many people need to turn around, get free from drugs and alcohol and make a completely new start. This is a spiritual exercise and needs spiritual support.

Many prisoners are very institutionalised with the feeling that they are pushed around continually by the System (and prisons are the ultimate institution). We want to help move our residents from this mindset into being fully responsible for their own lives.

So Stepping Stones Trust aims to help ex-prisoners get their lives together by finding a home, a job and a Christian community.
